Holiday Drinking: Thanksgiving, Part 2

November 18, 2012

Thanksgiving means football...and football weather. Here are a few warm beverages to help celebrate the togetherness. (Or help you relax with that uncle who just knows you voted for the other guy.)

Cinnamon Toast

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 oz spice rum
  • 6 oz hot apple cider
  • 1 Tbsp sugar
  • 1 Tbsp cinnamon
  • cinnamon stick, for garnish

Directions: Mix sugar and cinnamon on a saucer, and rim a mug. Add the rum and cider to the mug. Stir with cinnamon stick and serve.

Hot Thanksgiving Kick-Punch

Ingredients

  • 2 quarts cranberry juice
  • 1 quart pineapple juice
  • 1 cup dark rum
  • 1 cup spiced rum
  • 3 cinnamon sticks, plus extra for garnish
  • 12-15 cloves
  • cranberries, for garnish

Directions

  1. Combine all ingredients in crockpot and adjust to low setting.
  2. Simmer for an hour before drinking.
  3. Strain punch to remove the cloves. (The cinnamon sticks look pretty floating.)
  4. Add rum, bit by bit, remembering to taste for potency. Add cranberries for garnish.
  5. Serve in mug with cinnamon stick for garnish.

Of course, there are the old standards: hot toddies and mulled wine. Both work well. Just stay warm, eat lots, and enjoy your Thanksgiving! Cheers!
