Holiday Drinking: Thanksgiving, Part 2
November 18, 2012
Thanksgiving means football...and football weather. Here are a few warm beverages to help celebrate the togetherness. (Or help you relax with that uncle who just knows you voted for the other guy.)
Cinnamon Toast
Ingredients
- 1 1/4 oz spice rum
- 6 oz hot apple cider
- 1 Tbsp sugar
- 1 Tbsp cinnamon
- cinnamon stick, for garnish
Directions: Mix sugar and cinnamon on a saucer, and rim a mug. Add the rum and cider to the mug. Stir with cinnamon stick and serve.
Hot Thanksgiving Kick-Punch
Ingredients
- 2 quarts cranberry juice
- 1 quart pineapple juice
- 1 cup dark rum
- 1 cup spiced rum
- 3 cinnamon sticks, plus extra for garnish
- 12-15 cloves
- cranberries, for garnish
Directions
- Combine all ingredients in crockpot and adjust to low setting.
- Simmer for an hour before drinking.
- Strain punch to remove the cloves. (The cinnamon sticks look pretty floating.)
- Add rum, bit by bit, remembering to taste for potency. Add cranberries for garnish.
- Serve in mug with cinnamon stick for garnish.
Of course, there are the old standards: hot toddies and mulled wine. Both work well. Just stay warm, eat lots, and enjoy your Thanksgiving! Cheers!
