Drinking Games: Debate Highlights
The first presidential debate was an unqualified success...assuming your goal was drinking a lot playing our Debate Drinking Game. The only problem is sometimes the references were indirect and open to interpretation. Usually we erred on the side of alcohol.
Here's our tally:
- 5 jokes cracked (and Romney led the pack with a joke the audience dug!) = 6 drinks
- 11 uses by Romney of "$716 billion" (I think. I was wasted by the end.) = 11 drinks
- 1 blaming Bush by Obama = 1 drink
- 2 instances of a candidate speaking on behalf of the American people = 4 drinks
- 2 comparisons to other presidents, once of the opposite party = 5 drinks
- 2 occurences of candidates agreeing with the other = 4 drinks
- 3 occasions of arguing with the moderator about time = 9 drinks
- 1 mention of Obama killing Bin Laden = 3 drinks
- 3 references by Romney to RomneyCare = 9 drinks
which brings us to 52 drinks! But you don't want the numbers, do you? You want the highlights...
9:04 - Jim and Heather toast Obama's anniversary... and drink twice more when Romney successfully jokes about it.
9:20 - First mention of Donald Trump in a presidential debate. Heather mourns the downfall of Western Civilization.
9:26 - Heather predicts (accurately) that Romney is going to get her drunk.
9:38 - Jim doesn't regret not adding "middle class" to the game.
9:41 - Jim makes a joke, and Heather asks if she has to drink. Jim reminds her that he is not a candidate. Jim concludes Heather needs to take smaller sips, but it's too late.
10:09 - Heather cries, "Uncle!" after yet another "716 billion" reference by Romney.
10:13 - Heather is cut off.
10:30 - Cheers as the debate is finally over.
